Imphal, September 02 2022:
Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba has written to the State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman requesting to open an SBI Branch at Kakching Khunou College campus.
In the letter, the MP informed that the nearest bank for the residents of Kakching Khunou is the one at Kakching District Headquarters located around 25 kilometres away and the locals face numerous inconveniences while carrying out banking activities owing to the long distance.
The opening of a SBI Branch in Kakching Khunou will benefit around 50 thousand residents of Kakching Khunou Municipality, Waikhong Thongjao Gram Panchayat, Pangaltabi GP and Arong - Nongmaikhong GP to a great extent.
The MP also mentioned that several Government institutions namely Kakching Khunou College, JNV-Umathel, Wangoo High School, seven other Government schools, Waikhong Police Station, Langmeidong Police Outpost and Assam Rifles Unit etc are located in the vicinity of Kakching Khunou and the opening of a SBI branch in this area will help in effective implementation of banking work of these institutions.
In view of the problems faced by the locals due to absence of a bank nearby, the MP urged the SBI Chairman to take up necessary measures for opening a SBI branch in Kakching Khunou at the earliest.
