The people of Waikhurok, Bangla, Torbung, Kangvai and Phougakchao Ikhai have today sought the intervention of the Chief Minister of the State, O Ibobi to settle the district boundary and to bring lasting peace and tranquility in the said areas.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister said that both Meitei and tribal communities from time immemorial inhabit the said areas.
The said areas lie between the boundaries of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.
On 29-10-2010 some volunteers of so-called CDSU came to Kangvai Bazar and uprooted the "Welcome to Bishnupur" signboard installed by PWD and thrown to Turellu/Ikai river.
From this incident tension arose between the Meetei and tribal communities residing in the areas.
It is most likely to cause imminent danger and mob riot in the areas.
The memo further said a report from the side of the tribal community submitted to OC, Churachandpur PS has alleged 2 members of Meetei community of instigating the commotion.
But the said two persons are innocent and not related with the commotion.
The report has been registered as a regular case and the place of incident is not within the jurisdiction of Churachandpur PS.
The case has been transferred to Moirang PS.
In this regard, there arise a serious tension between the communities and breach of peace and tranquility is imminent in the said area.
The memo sought immediate intervention of CM to defuse the crisis.
The people of the area demanded withdrawal of report made by tribal community to 2 members of Meetei community to have peace and understanding between the communities.
They also sought a meeting between the leaders and members of the communities in presence of the DCs and SPs of Bishupur and Churachanpur districts to settle the matter amicably and also to settle the district boundary dispute.
