A regional workshop on Manipuri tone, which would go on for five days, has begun from today in the seminar hall of Linguistic Department, Manipur University.
The workshop is being organised by Linguistic Department of Manipur University in association with Linguistic Data Consortium for Indian Languages, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore.
The inaugural function was of the workshop was attended by Vice Chancellor of Manipur University C Amuba as chief guest; Head of Linguistic Department, Manipur University Prof P Madhubala Devi as president and Dean of School of Humanities, Manipur University Prof S Sanatombi Singha as guest of honour.
Delivering the key note address, lecturer of LCD-IL, CIIT Amom Nandaraj Meetei observed that resolution of the confusion over Manipuri tone should be brought about with the help of computerised speech technology.
It is in this regard that the workshop is being organised.
As part of the function, Prof C Amuba released a book titled Koireng Grammar and written by Prof Ch Jashawanta.
