Imphal, August 02 2010:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Chandel district and Naga Students' Union, Chandel (NSUC) have demanded immediate roll back of the decision taken by the State Government with regard to construction of designated camps for the surrendered KCP cadres at Leikun in Chandel district.
In a joint memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, the two student bodies demanded that the construction work of the designated camps should be stopped at once as the entire population in the district do not want any more humiliation or face communalism, hereafter.
Why should the Government want to create more problems when it has not been able to control the prevailing situation, the student bodies questioned.
The joint memorandum signed by KSO Chandel president Thangjalet Mate and NSUC president BS Shemhring further observed that the consent of the district population has to be respected for any upcoming developmental works in the district.
People have legitimate rights pertaining to their social, economic and political issues in any district.
Therefore, consensus has to be reached before anything else.
But this is not the case with the State Government.
The joint memorandum also warned that the general public would resort to any type of agitation if the State Government fails to meet the consent and respect the rights of the hill people.
On the other hand, in another representation jointly submitted to the Deputy General Manager of BSNL, Imphal, the two student bodies have demanded immediate transfer of SDO, Telephone Exchange, Chandel district citing frequent irregularities of the officer as the reason.
Since his assignment as the SDO three years ago, the officer has not been performing his duty, thereby paralysing the telecommunication system in the district, the joint representation said.
