MLA of Wangkhem A/C, Keisham Meghachandra assaulted the Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Dept after the officer refused to provide a power transformer as demanded by the said MLA.
The incident took place at the head office of the Electricity Department at Keishampat here at around 1 pm today.
MLA Meghachandra from Wangkhem Assembly Constituency under Thoubal district assaulted the Superintending Engineer (Power) Shijagurumayum Joykumar Sharma inside the latter's office chamber.
Prior to this, a worker of the MLA reportedly came to the Superintending Engineer bringing an indent order for issuing a power transformer.

At the insistence of the worker, SE Joykumar asked him to wait for the Chief Engineer (CE) who is currently out of station and he could do nothing without the knowledge of the CE.
However, instead of leaving the place, the worker contacted the MLA through his mobile phone and made the SE to talk with the MLA.
In his conversation with the MLA, Joykumar SE gave the same reply.
Not long after the worker had gone, MLA Meghachandra arrived along with his security escorts and slapped Joykumar on the face and kicked him before leaving without saying anything.
In protest against the conduct of the MLA, employees of Electricity Department went to lodge a complaint with Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing at his Sangaiprou Ningthemkol residence.
The employees demanded that MLA Meghachandra should resign from his post.
Later during the day, a joint meeting attended by Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, MLA Meghachandra and employees of the Electricity Department including the Additional CE was held in the Chief Minister's office to discuss the incident.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister proposed that the MLA would tender an apology to settle the matter.
But the agitated employees rejected it.
