Imphal, June 30 2018:
RK Sanatomba Memorial Journalist Award 2018 was conferred on Naorem Gyanand of Hueiyen Lanpao.
The award which consists of Rs 20,000 in cash along with a certificate and which is initiated by the RK Sanatomba Memorial Trust, was presented to Naorem Gyanand during a function held at Konung Hijagang community hall, Wangkei today, Kangla Lanpung Volume XII (Issue I) was also launched during the function.
The function organized in the name of late Kangla Lanpung's former Editor RK Sanatomba, popularly known as Konung Sanatomba, was graced by B Brajakumar Sharma and Dr S Sharma as the presidium members.
Professor RK Narendra Singh delivered a speech on the topic "Impact of NRC Updation (Assam) on Manipur: A dynamics of migration".
The Professor opined that NRC update in Assam will result in severe impact on its neighbouring States, particularly Manipur where there is no form of regulation to control entry of illegal migrants.
He conveyed that the first publication of the draft NRC update in Assam has identified only 19 million out of the total 32.9 million applicants as bona fide citizens of India living in the State.
Continuing that it is likely to identify not more than 1 million individuals as bona fide citizens in the final draft of the NRC update (which was supposed to be published today June 30, but was extended due to the occurrence of the recent flood in the State), Narendra observed that the remaining 12.9 million who would be rejected in the NRC update will be a big burden on the neighbouring States of Assam as they will try to get its foothold in these States.
The illegal migrants are not the rich populace and hence they will not have the capabilities to survive in metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai where living expense is very high.
They will come to places like Manipur in search of finding affordable places and where there is no regulation for checking and controlling illegal migrants.
Influx of illegal migrants in the State in such a large number will cause a devastating effect on the indigenous Manipuri society, be it in socio-economy, identity, culture, language of Manipuris.
Hence, it is high time for the State Government to enact an appropriate policy to control illegal influx in the State.
It is also a must for the people of the State to stop cooperating with the illegal migrants coming to the State.
