RTI activists humiliated

Three Right to Information (RTI) activists have allegedly been abused and assaulted by supporters of a former pradhan and nine ward members for filing a petition regarding issuance of two job cards to an individual.
Speaking to media persons at the Palace Compound office of Macha Leima today, Macha Leima RTI Apunba Nupi Lup assistant coordinator Geeta Potshangbam said that the Lup's Thongju part-II unit president K Sophia petitioned BDO, Imphal East seeking information on IAY schemes of MGNREGS for the 12th and 13th Finance Year.
The said petition is said to have filed based on detection of two job cards issued in the name of the petitioner, one mentioned as Sophia and the second enlisted as Sophy.
Geeta also contended that Sophia was not aware about the job cards prepared by the then pradhan Chirom Romio and nine ward members in her (Sophia) names.
A similar petition seeking information about the amount withdrawn in her name (sophia) was also filed to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East consequently leading to the court on March 3, 2013 issuing warrant of arrest against the former pradhan and the nine ward members, maintained the assistant coordinator.
