HIV/AIDS awareness held

30 Assam Rifles of Headquarter 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) in collaboration with Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) today organised a HIV/AIDS awareness programme at Higher Secondary School Ground, Awang Potsangbam Khullen, which included lecture by renowned persons and a street play conducted by members of MACS.
The aim of the programme was to educate the women folk and youth from villages surrounding Kongtha Khabam Khullen under Nilakuti COB of 30 Assam Rifles about the steps to fight HIV/AIDS.
MACS explained the ways/means of transmission of this deadly disease and preventive measures to avoid the same.
The need to practice safe physical relationship and honesty in marital life to evict the root cause of AIDS was emphasized during the programme.
Precautions during use of injections, syringes and blood transfusion & antenatal care for HIV infected women were covered in detail during the street play.
Correct knowledge about HIV/AIDS menace is important to restrict further spread of this grave disease.
Plight of victims of HIV/AIDS and their families and our role as society to help fight this disease was also brought to light by the Medical Officer.
Educative value of the programme and the social responsibility shouldered by Assam Rifles was highly appreciated and lauded by the audience.
Aim of creating awareness and eradicating misconceptions about the disease was also achieved successfully during the question answer session conducted at the end of the programme.
Programme was attended by almost 200 locals and the interest shown by the women folks and youth clearly indicated that Assam Rifles was able to achieve its aim of contributing towards a healthy and promising future of Manipur as well as the Nation.
At the end of the programme 30 Assam Rifles presented a small memento to the member of the MACS as a token of appreciation and also presented First Aid medicines to the village authority for the local youth club.
