Imphal, April 25 2013:
FREINDS has urged the State Government to press the Centre for early implementation of the recommendation passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on July 13 last year regarding the Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) .
In a press conference, FREINDS President Sapamcha Jadumani said, 33 percent of the total population of the State are non-locals.
The situation is getting aggravated day by day as there is still no let up in the influx of illegal migrants to the State through porous Indo-Myanmar border and Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur Highways.
Although, the State Police Department is checking this illegal entry of non-locals by opening a check post at Jiribam, non-locals are using alternative routes like rivers and jungles to reach the State, he added.
Sending back of 50 illegal migrants by the volunteers of FREINDS Jiribam Branch on April 17 was the testimony of the above fact, he added.
Saying that many minors who are below the age of 18 years are also being accompanied by the adult migrants, Sapamcha Jadumani demanded that another check-post, in addition to the current one, be opened at Jiribam.
He said that a ticketing counter at Jiribam is currently issuing driving licenses at Rs 500 to Rs 1000 without proper checking of domicile status of applicants.
He also said that it is not known whether these driving licenses are fake
or genuine.
As such, these driving licenses have proved to be an easy means of getting entry of non-locals to the State, he said.
Jadumani also urged the authority concerned to take utmost care in issuing driving licenses understanding the severity of the situation.
Meanwhile, FREINDS volunteers have pulled up a person who has a fake driving license and a fake currency note of Rs 1000 from Khwairamband Bazar today.
The person has been identified as Gajendra Yadav (36) s/o late Ram Sagar Yadav of Samastipur district, Bihar.
Surprisingly, Ganjendra does not know driving, Sapamcha Jadumani said.
It is questionable how driving license has been issued to a person who does not know driving, he added.
Sapamcha Jadumani also appealed the house owners to rent out rooms and houses to non-locals after having thorough inquiry of their names, address and profession etc.
