Malaria Day observed in State

Like in other parts of the globe, the World Malaria Day 2013 was observed at Sagolmang community hall, Khewa Phurju and Sawombung primary health centre, Keibi wherein awareness programmes were conducted and resource persons deliberating on preventive measures.
The observance programmes at the Sagolmang and Sawombung health centres were held under the theme 'Invest in the Future: Defeat Malaria', with DPMU, Imphal East hosting the programmes under IMCP-II and implemented by VHAI, New Delhi with Caritas India and NVBDCP.
According to Manipur Voluntary health Association, the observance at Khewa Phurju was marked by speech on prevention, control and diagnosis of Malaria by Medical Officer in-charge Dr S Ibungochouba Singh followed by a street play entitled 'Malaria-da Nokpade', performed by artistes of Nokphade group.
The nearly 40-minute play based on prevention and control of malaria, was witnessed by about 200 people including PRI members, school teachers, students and villagers, the Association release said.
At Keibi, Malaria Technical Supervisor (DVBDCP), Imphal East Yumnam Ranbir Singh elaborated on the need for the people to prevent, control and take prompt action against malaria.
While the officer also highlighted importance of the observance, booklets on malaria were also handed over to the village authority secretary for further distribution to the public.
The same street play staged at Khewa Phurju was also performed at the latter venue thronged by about 300 people.
The Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) Imphal as SR of Caritas India Consortium partners under GFATM round 9, Intensified Malaria Control Project �II in partnership with the District Vector Borne Disease Control Program of Kangpokpi organized the World Malaria Day at P Geljang (Thienzawl) village under the theme "Invest in the future, Defeat Malaria" along with the people of the neighbouring villages of Saikul PHC.
A statement informed that the event was marked by public meeting and deliberation on the role played by the Rivers of Life World Evangelization troupe on malaria to create mass awareness among the people.
The District Malaria Officer, of Kangpokpi Dr Zamkhokam gave the keynote address on theme and urged upon the delegates to avail the free testing and treatment services of the community health volunteers in the villages to defeat malaria permanently.
