Demanding implementation of 6th Pay Commission recommendation for personnel of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) a sit-in-protest under the aegis of Joint Coordination Committee of All Manipur Municipality Employees & Workers' Union Manipur and IMC Employees' union was staged at the Council's gate on Tuesday as a part of the ceasework agitation.
Stating that State authorities were already intimated about the demand for extending the 6th Pay Commission recommendation to IMC personnel, numbering about 400, Committee general secretary Ph Chaoba said with the commencement of the ceasework strike normal chores of cleaning Khwairamband Keithel and adjoining locations will remain suspended with immediate effect.
Cautioning that further denial of their rights might compel the employees' bodies to resort to more intense agitation, he also clarified that the proposed general strike tomorrow (December 18) has been withdrawn in view of ongoing examinations of various educational institutions with the Unions deciding to instead persist with sit-in-protest at the IMC premises.
Stating that along with serving 15 days ultimatum to the Government for implementing the 6th Pay Commission recommendation IMC personnel had been resorting to symbolic protests in this period, Chaoba said lack of positive response constrained launch of ceasework work strike from today.
He also expressed strong resentment that contrary to their counter-parts in other department already enjoy the Commission recommended pay scale IMC personnel remain unpaid for months subsequently leading to severe inconveniences in maintaining family expenditures.
