UGs under SoO pact held on extortion charge

A cadre each of two different UG groups under SoO pact who went to extort money at the Manipur Forest Department office, Sanjenthong have been arrested by a team of 8th IR Cdo Battalion who were on duty at the area today.
Reports culled from the spot said that the two cadres belonging to the Zou Defence Volunteer (ZDV) and KNF (Z) both within the fold of KNO, a party to the SoO agreement were arrested around 1.30 pm today.
The arrested cadres are Mangboi Haokip (46) S/o (L) Lamlen of Zoulem in Churachandpur district and Zouminlal (29) S/o (L) Gulmang of Saikul in Senapati district.
Mangboi Haokip is said to be the assistant finance secretary of KNF (Z) Imphal Division.
He is staying at the outfit's designated Chongkhozou camp under Henglep subdivision in Churachandpur and working under the command of one Thongsei.
Zouminlal is a cadre of the ZDV's finance section.
He is staying at the outfit's Salem Camp at Sangaikot and working under one Hegin.
Two mobile phones and eight SIM cards were recovered from the duo, the report said.
UGs arrested, explosives recovered : A combined team of Imphal East, Imphal West district police commandos, troops of 30 AR and 40 AR arrested an active cadre of the banned RPF on Dec 17 around 9.30pm from Khurai Sajor Leikai, Imphal East and recovered RDX and TNT weighing about 6.5 kgs, a switch device with timer and wire, two detonators and 18 round pieces of RDX in a prompt follow up investigation.
A statement issued by the PRO of Police Department, S Gautam Singh, who is also the SP (NAB) identified the arrested man as Heisnam Babu Meitei alias Rajesh (26) S/o (L) H Thawal Meitei of Sorok Atingbi Lakhipur, Jiribam PS.
One 9 mm pistol along with 5 live rounds in the magazine, one mobile phone handset with two SIM cards were recovered from the possession of arrested man.
The arrest and subsequent recovery of the explosive substances prevented commission of subversive activities by the UG group including attack on non-locals, the Police PRO claimed while adding that the involvement of H Babu in other grave crimes is being probed.
During further investigation, one Potshangbam Saroja Devi alias Apik (40) D/o P Radheshyam Singh of Uripok Naoremthong Takhellambam Leikai and one Moirangthem (O) Kamala Devi alias Bigyapati Devi (37) W/o M Sanajaoba Singh of Kongba Ucheckon, both women cadres of the People's militia (PLA/RPF) were arrested from Uripok Sorbon Thingel Leirak and Kongba Ucheckon respectively along with their mobile phones, the PRO statement said.
Investigation also revealed that the two women PLA/RPF cadres had received training in handling of explosives and they were to receive the recovered explosives from H Babu, the PRO statement further said adding that a case has been registered with the Porompat PS and investigation is on.
