On the 84th anniversary of comrade Thokchom Bira's death, the Communists Party of India (CPI) Manipur State Council paid homage to its yesteryear leader in a function held at Keishampat Longjam Leikai.
Health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat led CPI leaders, workers, relatives and well wishers in offering floral tributes to the photograph of the comrade, who according to the health minister, struggled for the welfare and upliftment of the poor, The weaker sections and the working class people of the state.
Speaking as chief guest at the observance function, minister Parijat said that comrade Bira was the leader of the downtrodden people of the state.
He was a leader who always thought for the welfare of the society.
CPI is a party which had struggled for the people's welfare.
Party workers have to continue the struggle for the welfare of the people remembering what the leader had done during his lifetime.
The observance function organized by the Irawat Celebration Committee in association with CPI Local Council was presided over by Moirangthem Ibohal, chairman of the CPI Control Committee and state secretary, Langoljam Iboyaima and former minister, Dr M Nara attended as guests of honour.
Thokchom Bira was born on this day in 1926.
