Mr India, a film on HIV Positive body builder Kh Pradeep kumar made by Haobam Pabankumar wins Best Film on Social Issue Award at 57th National Film Awards for the Year 2009. The Directorate of Film Festivals announced the Film Awards in New Delhi today.
The awards were announced in three categories.
Best Feature Film Category under the Chairpersonship of Shri Ramesh Sippy, Non Feature Film Category under the Chairpersonship of Shri Mike Pandey, and Best Writing on Cinema under the Chairpersonship of Shri Samik Bandhopadhyay.
Under the Feature Film Category, 136 eligible entries were distributed between five Regional Juries.
The selection process returned to a Two Tier System of Selection.
The Chairperson for the Northern Region was Ms.Sushma Seth, for the Western Region, Shri M.S.Sathyu, for South �I Region, Mr.T.S.Nagabharna, for the Eastern Region, Shri B.Lenin and for South- II Region, Shri Pinaki Choudhry .
Previously in the 3rd Kerala international film festival of documentary and short films 2010, Mr India,a film depicting the struggles of HIV Positive body builder Pradeepkumar had won the 'Special Jury Award'.
Young filmmaker Haobam Pabankumar has already won more than 12 national and international awards and this is another glorious feather in his cap.
As the filmmaker didnt have any funding, the film was made with the selfless support of his crew who worked in the film without charging any fee.
The team were-camera - Irom Maipak & Abhijit Nandy, editor-Sankha, assistant director-Helendro and production manager-Laishram Dev.
