Senapati, November 29 2020:
Making it one of the most successful projects in the State, the Likhuri Rain Water Harvesting Scheme under Minor Irrigation Department will serve a dual purpose of providing huge irrigation benefits and drinking water to many villages, reports our correspondent.
Inspecting the site with the officials concerned, PHED Minister L Dikho informed that the project is now ready to serve its intended purpose to more than 10 villages like Song Song, Kalinamei, Tadubi, Kayinu, Shajouba, Kaibi, Makhel and other villages.
"The project, apart from solving water scarcity being faced by many villages during the dry season, will also provide water for irrigation to many areas during the lean season", stated the Minister.
The project is located near the oldest and famous Mao potato farm which is also home to cherry trees.
The cherry trees are blooming since the middle week of this month and are expected to last till the first week of December.
Though the Cherry Blossom Festival which is a part of the State Government's sponsored Sangai festival was cancelled due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the blooming cherry attracted many young people to Mao since the last week, stated a resident.
Mao is a cold hill station border town that produces some of the best organic vegetables, fruits and flowers in Manipur.
