Imphal, November 29 2020:
As the repairing work of the Irang Bailey Bridge has been almost completed, normal vehicular traffic along Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-37 is all set to resume in the next couple of days.
NH 37 is the second lifeline of Manipur.
Vehicular movement along the route has been stopped after the Irang bailey Bridge collapsed while a loaded truck crossed it killing the driver on November 1 .
Unable to repair the collapsed bridge despite best efforts, a new bailey bridge was being installed.
However, the newly installed bridge also collapsed before completion.
The work for installation of the new bailey bridge was handled by a team of 52 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army and National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) .
The team is putting in all efforts to restore the bailey bridge at the earliest.
Mention may be made that since the collapse of the bridge, NH-37A (Old Cachar Road or Tongjei Maril) is being used as a diversion route.
However, restriction on plying of heavy vehicles has caused inconveniences to the truckers shipping essential commodities into the state.
