Imphal, November 29 2020:
Dingko Road which is already languishing in a very sorry state has been made worse after its portion dug out for laying water pipes was not properly covered and levelled.
Notably, Dingko Road connects Chingmeirong Khongnang Karak and Lamlong Bridge.
It is the Chingmeirong Khongnang Karak-ISBT section which has been highly dilapidated since earlier as heavy trucks engaged in transporting essential commodities are parked at the ISBT.
During the last rainy season, the particular section was not fit for any type of vehicular movement.
Following sustained pressure from transporters and the public to repair the particular road, the Chief Minister made a field assessment of the road.
However, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which pinched hard the State's economy, the State Government could not sanction necessary fund for repairing the road.
As such, Dingko Road has been still languishing in a very pathetic State despite direct assessment by the Chief Secretary.
While mud and water made the road virtually inaccessible during rainy season, thick columns of dust and dirt have been causing havoc to commuters and shopkeepers alike during the current dry spell.
Even though the State's financial position is not sound enough, the authority concerned has started filling potholes and depressed portions with stones since the last couple of days.
However, it remains a big question regarding who would fill up the road section dug out by PHED for laying water pipes but abandoned without covering and levelling the particular section properly.
Before digging out PWD roads for laying telecom cables by Airtel, BSNL etc, the telecom companies are first made to deposit necessary amounts needed for covering and levelling the dug out sections with the PWD.
It is not clear whether PHED deposited any amount with PWD for digging out Dingko Road and leaving it uncovered and unlevelled.
