Ukhrul, November 29 2020:
Ukhrul district Nodal officer for COVID-19 Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei who is the AC to DC, Ukhrul has issued a schedule for conducting sero surveillance from November 30 onwards for Ukhrul district.
Seroprevalence studies (or serosurveys) estimate the share of the population that test positive for antibodies using serology tests.
The presence of a specific antibody in a sufficiently high concentration will suggest that the tested person was previously infected.
Typically, such studies test individuals who are selected at random using sampling techniques that will allow scaling the results to the general population.
All need not be tested, or even a majority of the population - what is needed is a randomly drawn set of individuals, provided that those who agree to participate in the test are not somehow systematically different from those who refuse .
According to the order sero survey for COVID-19 will be conducted on 932 persons drawn from 12 villages and two localities of Ukhrul town.
It was informed that the district medical team will randomly pick up a person from any household from the notified villages and town localities for COVID-19 testing during the sero surveillance programme.
Viewland Zone I has been listed as Ukhrul Urban hotspot while Rayotang is in the category of urban non hotspot.
Six villages namely Shokvao, Ramva (Lambui), Shangshak, Choithar, Pharung and Phalee were included in the list of Ukhrul Rural hotspot and Shirui, Langdang, Halang, Talui, Paorei and Lunghar village have been listed as rural non hotspot category of the district.
According to the CMO of Ukhrul, Dr Kapangring random COVID-19 test would be conducted during the sero surveillance programme in all notified areas by the district medical team.
This is to identify the approximate corona virus infection in order to establish the ground situation of the district.
The collected data and the reports would be submitted to the higher authority for overall assessment of COVID-19 situation in the district.
The Nodal Officer Kachamthai urged the people of Ukhrul district to co-operate with the district health workers during the proposed sero surveillance drive.
