Imphal, November 29 2020:
One out every 10 COVID-19 deaths recorded in the State are due to comorbidities.
This was established after COVID-19 deaths recorded in the State so far were audited by the Health Department.
A high ranking official of Health Department informed that the auditing of COVID-19 deaths being held under an instruction from the Central Government covers COVID-19 positive persons who die in accidents as well as those who have been suffering from other medical problems.
There are some other cases whose deteriorating health conditions and fatalities cannot be attributed to COVID-19 even though they are/were COVID-19 positive, said the official.
As recommended by the COVID-19 Central team, all COVID-19 related data of the State are being analysed.
Further, necessary steps have been initiated to raise ICUs at RIMS, JNIMS and district hospitals in line with the Central team's recommendation, informed the official.
As there are no district hospitals in Imphal West and Imphal East, the Government has been planning to increase ICU beds at RIMS and JNIMS.
There are 17 ICU beds at RIMS, 14 at JNIMS, 15 at Shija Hospital, four at Raj Medicity, four at Churachandpur district hospital and two at Thoubal district hospital.
There is no shortage of medical oxygen in the State, said the source.
The Central Government has already sent 500 large oxygen cylinders together with 400 oxygen concentrators, the official further informed.
