Seven injured in city blast

At least seven non Manipuris were injured in a powerful blast which occurred at Majorkhul Northern gate near City PS at around 5.45 am today.
According to information collected from the spot, the bomb blast occurred in front of a second hand spare parts shop called Pappu Motors owned by one Sunil Nawab, which is located a few meters away from Majorkhul Northern gate, Thangal bazar.
The blast also injured seven non Manipuris who were passing through the area at that time.
One of the injured individuals, identified as Rajesh Sahani (30) s/o Narayan Sahani of Jagadar village, Bihar (presently staying at Majorkhul) was rushed to Raj Medicity for treatment.
He sustained injuries on his right hand and left thigh.
The remaining six other injured persons, who were admitted at RIMS have been identified as Sunil Gupta (38) s/o Vajeer Gupta, Bharaupa Sohanrai village, UP (presently staying at Khoyathong), Chhotu Sahani (26) s/o Ram Naresh of Akhan Ballia village, UP (presently staying at Majorkhul), Ranjit Sah (32) s/o Mahindra Sah of Fazilpur village, Bihar (presently staying at Nagamapal), Ranjit Sah (46) s/o Sitaram Sah of Bhagabati Sanitham village, Bihar (presently staying at Nagamapal), Dhamendra Sahani (24) s/o Ram Prakash Sahani of Lakhimpur village, Bihar (present staying at Majorkhul) and Dharamdev Yadav (30) s/o (L) Bachan Yadav of Lakhimpur village, Bihar (presently staying at Dharmasala).
Sunil Gupta sustained injuries on his left feet, Chhotu Sahani on the right side of his chest, Ranjit on his right shoulder and left ankle while Dhamendra Sahani got injured on the left side of his chest and Dharamdev Yadav sustained injuries on his left cheek and left armpit.
Soon after the explosion, the area was cordoned off by police preventing people for going near the blast site.
They also checked the area for possible presence of any other explosive materials.
Senior police officers of Imphal West district also arrived at and investigated the blast site.
A team of State Forensic experts also carried out an inquest of the incident site and opined that the blast might have been from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The blast partially damages some walls and shutters of other shops located near the site.
It is highly suspected that the IED might have been planted in front of Pappu Motors near the iron shutter door of the shop.
A case has been registered at City PS regarding the incident.
On the other hand, the Majorkhul Peikai (Thoubei) has strongly condemned the bomb blast.
A press release issued by the Khullakpa (Chief) termed the act as a threat towards the people residing in and around Majorkhul locality and appealed to the perpetrators not to carry out such acts in public areas in the future.
