The Centennial Birth Anniversary of noted script writer Haobam Tomba was commemorated today at Langmeidong Dramatic Union Hall, Langmeidong which was jointly organised by the Haobam Tomba Birth Centenary Celebration Committee, Imphal and Langmeidong Dramatic Union.
A discussion on the 'contribution of Haobam Tomba to theatre and literature' was held as part of the observation.
The occasion was graced by the President of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, Prof Nongmaithem Tombi; the Chairman of Langmeidong Dramatic Union, Aribam Nandakishore Sharma; and President of MDU Ksh Ibohal, noted writer Naorem Kalimohan and retired Principal of Thoubal College, Naorem Gandhar as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
The centenary celebration programme was set into motion by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Haobam Tomba.
Giving an account on the achievements and contribution of Haobam Tomba during his life time, the convenor of the centenary celebration committee, Dr Athokpam Khelchandra said Haobam Tomba was one of the pioneers who revolutionised staging of theatre plays in Manipuri.
He said the programme was organised to pay tribute to his achievements and contributions in the field of theatre.
Various speakers including Dr Lamabam Gozendra, Shribudha Chingtham and Dr Athokpam Khelchandra have also spoke on the works and life of Haobam Tomba.
