ZHRF hails Mizo Assembly for UNDRIP resolution

The Zomi Human Rights Foundation Head Quarters has today extended their earnest appreciation to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram for having passed a resolution to strongly put pressure on the Government of India for a meaningful implementation of the articles and clauses of the United Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous People, 2007 (UNDRIP).
The Mizoram Assembly have on March 15, 2019 adopted and passed a resolution for the effective implementation of UNDRIP 2007 .
'It is indeed a moment of great joy and importance that in its fourth sitting held on the 15th of March, 2019, the Eight Legislative Assembly of Mizoram adopted and passed such a resolution for the effective implementation of UNDRIP 2007.Perhaps, it is a Red Letter day for the Indigenous Zo People/ Zo descendant / Zo Hnahthlak across the Globe,' said a statement issued by the foundation.
The UNDRIP 2007, amongst other declares the Rights of the Indigenous People with regards to culture, customs, religion, land and its resources.
The Declaration further also proclaim the right to participation of the Indigenous People in the decision making process and enunciated the process of obtaining a free, fair and prior informed consent of the Indigenous people while interfering with their land, culture and traditions.
The foundation further added that the passing of such a Resolution by the august House of Mizoram Legislative Assembly is a giant leap for the Zo People.
