Imphal, December 11 2011:
The second edition of 'Movement of Inner Line Permit System in Kangleipak' written by Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) president Sapamcha Jadumani has been released today by Gauhati High court Chief Justice (Retd) RK Manisana.
While the former legal proponent expressed confidence that the new book would be helpful for the common public to understand the loss or gain of implementing inner line permit system in Manipur, the author in his address highlighted ever increasing population of outsiders.
Jadumani explained that out of Manipur's total population of 22,93,896, the Meitei community comprises 7,51,882 of the total while the population strength of the tribals and Meitei Pangal communities stand at 6,70,782and 1,67,204 respectively.
As per 2001 record there are 7,04,204 non locals in Manipur, he said and conceded that the exact number of ever expanding population of non-locals cannot be enumerated at present.
Expressing fear that failure to check entry of non-locals would reduce the indigenous population to a minority in the near future, Jadumani drew the attention of the Government for immediate implementation of inner line permit system in Manipur.
The book release function was also attended by FREINDS advisors advocate M Gourahari and H Kula.
