AMWJU to boycott police achievement news

Imphal, December 11 2011:
The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) in a joint meeting of its Standing Committee and Editors decided to boycott the Manipur Police, its achievements and events related to it, stated a press release of AMWJU today.
The meeting also condemned the assault on Poknapham Sub Editor L Keshonanda by some persons on the evening
of December 8 .
According to the statement of AMWJU, a man who is said to be one of the accused persons called up a member of the Standing Committee of AMWJU and told him that he wants to bring a closure to the matter and told them that he will come at the Manipur Press Club to say something about the incident.
Accepting his proposal, members of AMWJU and editors waited for him for more than two hours.
However, the man failed to turn up.
The meeting discussed the failure of the Manipur Police Department to book the accused persons even after an FIR was filed on the night of the incident as also the deadline given by the AMWJU to the Police and resolved to boycott the achievements and programmes participated by police personnel until and unless the accused persons are booked under the law.
The meeting also resolved to boycott the SPF government from December 15 if it failed to book the culprits on or before December 14.Furthermore the meeting also resolved to boycott allied political parties of SPF government from December 18 if the same demand is not met by December 17 .
Meanwhile, the statement of AMWJU cautioned all the media persons in the state to stay alert while going outside Imphal area for covering news and also urged them to travel in groups if it is absolutely necessary to go outside Imphal.
