Zeliangrong people need mass awareness on HIV: Dr Z Kamei

There is a need to carry out mass awareness on HIV/AIDS for Zeliangrong people particularly those residing in Tousem Sub- Division of Tamenglong district said Dr Z.Kamei District AIDS Control Officer Tamenglong after returning from a six-day Mobile Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre, ICTC awareness campaign.
He said that when the Mobile team camped at various villages in Tousem Sub- Division some persons ran away from those villages.
One positive case was detected when the team visited Kaiphundai, Rengkekiulong, Longchai, Old and New Mandeu, Aben, Tousem HQs, Tousem Khullen, Phoklong and Teguaram village in Tousem Sub- Division where 250 persons got their blood tested.
Apart from free testing of HIV/ AIDS, the team also provided free check-up and medicines to the general people.
In the meantime, the Mobile ICTC team, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, DAPCU in a press statement expressed unhappiness over rude behaviour of the 11 Assam Rifles posted at Akhui.
The personnel allegedly harasses the team members including the doctor.
While appealing to the higher authority concern not to give any harassment to the doctors and medical staff, the statement also asked whether the 12 Assam Rifles is 'Friend of the Hill or fright of the Hilly people' .
