Ukhrul, October 14 2015:
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPHMR) organized an one day consultation on current affairs especially on the prevailing Manipur situation and strenghthening Indo-Naga peace process.
In his opening remark, ANSAM president Seth Shatsang stated that the people of Manipur demanded implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur, but the State Assembly passed the Protection of Manipur People Bill 2015 and two other Bills which were totally different from the demand infringing on the rights of the tribals.
Moreover the State Government did not consult with the HAC.
This led the tribal people to demand the withdrawal or rejection of the three Bills.
It is our right to safeguard and protect our ancestral land, resources etc, added Shatsang.
In the second session, former president of TNL Artax A Shimray deliberated on the Naga movement for self determination and the over 50 rounds of talk after signing the ceasefire agreement in 1997 .
On August 3, the framework agreement was signed between GOI and NSCN-IM to bring a solution.
All the Nagas are stakeholders, he said and added that it is not only the Naga National workers.
Nagas' demand for self determination is a people movement, he said and added that this movement is based on the unique history of Nagas.
This is a point which has already been recognised by the Government of India.
"Our solution is also based on the unique history of the Nagas", he added.
During the discussion hour, many shared their thoughts and called for more transparency in the ongoing Indo-Naga peace process.
Intelectuals, well wishers, formers CSO leaders from Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong attended the consultative meeting.
