Imphal, December 12 2020:
The Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) has pledged unstinted support to Chief Minister N Biren's School Fagathansi mission.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, COTA co-convenor L Ritendra said that COTA which represents more than 20,000 teachers under the School Education Department would sincerely support not only School Fagathansi mission but also other such initiatives aimed at improving the State's education sector.
On behalf of COTA, Ritendra conveyed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the latter's assurance that the grievances of teachers would be discussed at a Cabinet meeting.
After rectification of ROP for teachers was deferred on June 5 this year, Finance Department and PIC made necessary rectifications to the ROP with a common observation that the demand for ROP rectification was legitimate.
Saying that the rectified ROP is now in the custody of the Chief Minister, the COTA co-convenor expressed strong belief that the State Cabinet would approve the rectified ROP in its next sitting.
Such a step would greatly boost teachers' morale which would go a long way in fructifying the School Fagathansi mission, he said.
Pay scales recommended by the 7th Pay Commission are being denied to more than 20,000 teachers for over 18 months because there has been no rectification of ROP, he said.
He then appealed to the Government to approve the rectified ROP at the next Cabinet meeting and issue an order on the same before the Christmas festival.
