Committee on Welfare of Women and Children visits Jiribam

In a bid to understand the ground reality of Jiribam district and address issues on various fields, the Committee on Welfare of Women and Children, Manipur Legislative Assembly under the chairmanship of Ak Mirabai Devi, MLA along with Paonam Brojen Singh, Dr Th Radheshyam Yumnam, N Indrajit and Fajur Rahim visited Jiribam on April 6 and 7 .
The visiting team was accompanied by the Commissioner, Director, Social Welfare Department and officials of the Assembly Secretariat.
The committee visited the Centres for Mentally ill Girls, Open Shelter Home for boys, Children Welfare Centre, One Stop Centre, Anganwadi Centres, Working Women Hostel Construction, etc.
During the visit, the team were made aware that in many Anganwadi Centres children were not taught in Manipuri language and the honorarium of workers and helpers were not paid for many months.
Ak Mirabai Devi asserted that Jiribam being a border district resided by different communities, it needs special attention and policy of the Government to make sure that Bengali Muslim Aganwadi children are taught in manipuri language in order to promote emotional integrity with the rest of the State.
Language is the medium to promote harmony, peace and emotional integrity,
she added.
