Directorate of Health Services Manipur and National Health Mission Manipur observed World Health Day at JNIMS, today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the observance, Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, V Vumlunmang stated that the unfortunate reality of COVID-19 is that people are facing greater uncertainty now.
As the Covid pandemic had a serious consequence on the health and economic sectors, the State has started taking up measures such as making Covid tests compulsory for people returning to Manipur via flights from States with higher risk to avert the second wave.
The Principal Secretary also said that measures will soon be taken up to test people entering the State by roads too.
Saying that the rate of Covid infections is higher in the second wave, V Vumlunmang appealed to all to obey Covid appropriate behaviour.
He reminded that the State Government has rolled out certain health care schemes to help the people, especially the poor at the time of seeking health care/ treatment for different ailments.
Saying that 206 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) have so far been opened to provide healthcare facilities to people at rural and remote places of the State, V Vumlunmang appealed to the medical students to visit the HWCs to gain learning experience.
He also urged all medical practitioners to refrain from running from one hospital to another but work with dedication to give best treatment to patients.
Asserting that there was an instance of doctors leaving the patients at crucial hours, he opined that the rate of expecting mothers dying at the time of delivery would reduce considerably if all doctors follow medical ethics properly.
The programme was also attended by Health Services Manipur Director, Dr K Rajo; JNIMS Dean Academic T Rajen, Health Services Manipur Additional Director Dr Sashikumar Mangang and National Health Mission Manipur, Mission Director, N Shyamjai.
During the function, National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) Award and KAYAKALP Award for 2019-20 were also distributed.
