Imphal, September 06, 2013:
It is better to resign from being an MLA rather than remaining idle doing nothing for the development of the State and the people, MLA Yamthong Haokip has exclaimed.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of a day-long meeting of Saikul Block Congress Committee at Kuki Inpi Hall, Saikul Bazaar today.
The MLA stated that with the coming of Congress rule in the country, a number of developmental programmes have been taken up all over the country including Manipur.
Recently, the Congress government passed the Food Security Bill in the Parliament and decided to implement it all over the country.
He went on to state that the Food Security Bill has been introduced with the primary objective of reducing the number of poor people in the country.
The Manipur State Cabinet has also taken a decision to implement the Food Security Bill in the State.
The Bill has already been implemented in some other States after it was passed by the Parliament.
MLA Yamthong expressed hope that with implementation of Food Security Bill, the poor people of the State will be benefitted to a great extent and they will be able to get rice at the rate of Rs 3/kg. MLA Yamthong went on to observe that the leaders of the State have to be sincere and trustworthy in handing over the required materials while implementing the Food Security Bill.
It is the duty of the MLAs and Ministers to work for the welfare of the people and for the development of the State.
It would be much better for the MLAs and the Ministers to resign from their respective posts if they are not willing to work for the people.
The meeting was also attended by P Tuboi, President of Saikul Block Congress Committee; T Misao, President of District Council, Sadar hills; Saikholal Haokip, Executive Member of Autonomous District Council, Sadar Hills and Jilthang Touthang, member of ADC Sadar Hills as presidium members.
