Dr Wahengbam Imo was one among 26 IVF specialists selected from across the country and felicitated by the Economic Times.
Dr Imo is a Consultant Gynaecologist at Suba Hospital and Assisted Reproductive Centre.
The 26 IVF specialists were honoured with awards at a function held at Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi recently.
Speaking to media persons at his Uripok Kombirei Keithel office today, Dr W Imo said that he was taken by utter surprise when he found his name listed among the 26 IVF specialists selected by the Economic Times.
He said that Suba Hospital and Assisted Reproductive Centre was set up on May 16, 2005 and its IVF Centre was opened on July 5, 2008 .
On June 18, 2009, a female twin was delivered through the IVF Centre.
Suba Hospital and Assisted Reproductive Centre opened Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) facility on June 30, 2016 .
Through FET, a boy and a girl were delivered at the hospital, Dr Imo said.
The latest equipment procured by the hospital is Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) .
It was installed in the hospital on April 5 this year.
Success rates of IVF, FET and ICSI are 55-60 per cent, 70-80 per cent and 90-100 per cent respectively.
Suba Hospital has so far delivered 1277 babies including twins and their parents include people from neighbouring States and Myanmar, Dr Imo said.
He was gratified when his activities and achievements were acknowledged by the Economic Times.
To a query, Dr Imo said that the problem of infertility is growing in the State.
Late marriage, sexual relationship before marriage, abuse of intoxicants and changed lifestyle are some major factors for infertility, he said.
"Though there is no concrete statistical data with me, it is true that fertility has been declining in the State", he added.
