Imphal, July 01 2019:
CPI Manipur State Council submitted a memorandum to the Governor yesterday about unavailability of subsidised rice regularly and the drought-like situation seen in the State.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI National Executive Member Dr M Nara said that they submitted a memorandum to the Governor yesterday as the BJP-led coalition Government is paying no heed over people's woes such as unavailability of subsidised rice given under NFSA regularly and inability to start paddy cultivation on account of inadequate rainfall.
Except for two/three Ministers, most Ministers including the Chief Minister and the CAF&PD were away at Delhi.
As such, there was no one to listen to people's complaints about unavailability of NFSA rice, Dr Nara said.
Asking how long the people should suffer on account of the Government's internal crisis, Dr Nara asserted that the BJP-led coalition Government should be declared as an unlawful Government under the 10th Schedule.
It would be right to abolish the incumbent Government and hold fresh election to seek people's mandate anew.
Congress MLAs who have been supporting BJP are still sitting on Opposition bench and they have not been disqualified, he said.
The situation demands application of anti-defection law, he said while appealing to the Speaker not to sleep over the issue without initiating any action.
CPI strongly opposes the act of destroying democracy in the name of democracy, he said.
CPI lodged a complaint to the Governor as the agents selected by MLAs are unable to provide subsidised rice under NFSA regularly.
Even as the whole State has been reeling under unavailability of subsidised rice which has been compounded by inability to cultivate paddy, the ruling MLAs are engaged in a protracted power struggle, he decried.
CPI State Secretary L Sotinkumar said that subsidised rice lifted from FCS godowns did not reach majority of the people in almost all Assembly segments and there is a growing suspicion whether MLAs are involved in swindling the masses out of subsidised rice.
While demanding a white paper on the huge amounts withdrawn when the Lok Sabha election model code of conduct was in force, Sotinkumar asserted that the incumbent Government has forfeited its right to rule the State for the ruling MLAs are engaged in a power struggle for too long without bothering for the masses.
