Imphal, November 29 2020:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has expressed strong exception to the Congress party's grumbling over the Most Improved State for Inclusive Development Award conferred to the State by the India Today Group.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesman Ch Bijoy remarked that it was a matter of pride for all the people of Manipur that the State has been conferred the Most Improved State for Inclusive Development Award.
He then asked if the Congress workers were segregating themselves from the masses by questioning the particular award.
'Most improved State' does not mean Manipur is the best but it denotes the degree of improvement achieved within a short period.
It is rather surprising that Congress leaders and workers have been grumbling against the India Today Group for conferring the particular award to their own State, Bijoy remarked.
He said that Congress leaders are unable to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in different fields.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that China would emerge victorious if it attacks India and if China wins over India, Narendra Modi will fall, Bijoy conveyed before asking whether Congress party would rejoice when Narendra Modi falls under such a scenario.
He went on to ask whether Congress party would remain undefeated when it is assumed that China defeats India.
Reacting to MPCC spokeswoman L Tilotama's question on what basis the India Today Group conferred the Most Improved State for Inclusive Development Award to the State Government, the BJP chief spokesman contended that BJP is not a party like that of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi who conferred themselves the Bharat Ratna.
It would be a gross error if anyone was thinking that N Biren received the award after lobbying with the India Today Group in the line of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, Bijoy said.
"We agreed to the report published recently by a Bangalore-based NGO which placed Manipur in the bottom section of the list of States based on economic growth.
Manipur still remains quite backward economically but this does not mean Manipur does not deserve any award", Bijoy said.
At present, the maximum tonnage of vehicles plying on NH 37 is 24 tonnes and very soon the highway would be fit for transportation of 40 tonnes (including weight of trucks).
Congress party should take note of these changes/improvements, he said.
Pointing out that BJP won four seats out of five Assembly segments which went to by-polls recently while Congress drew blank, the BJP chief spokesman asserted that the best judge for the performance of any Government is the people.
He further claimed that the State's law and order situation has also improved remarkably.
