Literature award for Sudhir Naoroibam

The "Manipur State Award for Literature" this year has been conferred on Sudhir Naoroibam for his book "Asengba Yum Amasung Atei Warising", a collection of 12 short stories published in the year 2018 .
The award comprises a memento, citation, shawl and Rs 3 lakh.
Education Minister S Rajen Singh handed over the award to Sudhir Naoroibam today at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal.
Speaking at the award distribution ceremony as chief guest, S Rajen Singh said that writers are the 'leading light' in a society.
"The role played by our writers in the society is very big.
They are able to change the course of the society through their writings.
Writers express their thoughts and philosophies through their writings.
The tradition and standard of a society are reflected in their writings," he said.
He maintained that there is no loss in learning and knowing languages of different communities and other countries however "we should also preserve and protect our ancient language and script at the same time" .
The gap between the younger generation and older generation can be bridged by maintaining and preserving "our old scripts", he said.
S Rajen also assured that the State award for Translation will be instituted from next year in consultation with the officials of the Language and Education Department.
The Government acknowledges the importance of translating books in different languages to Manipuri, he added.
Commissioner, Education (S) T Ranjit Singh said, "Honouring our writers is as significant as shaping the society for the better.
This year's award distribution ceremony is organised in a restricted manner due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic" .
He applauded the writers on the occasion.
Director, Language Planning and Implementation Th Chitra Devi, officials of Language Department, Education Department, Manipur University and many writers attended the event.
