Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program opens at District Hospital, Senapati

The much awaited services for people suffering from chronic diseases have finally arrived with inauguration of the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program (PMNDP) at District Hospital, Senapati.
The inauguration program was attended by Ng Benjamin Tao, Executive Member (Forest & Environment), ADC, Senapati as the chief guest and Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, CMO/Director, District Health Society, Senapati as the presiding officer in the presence of Medical Superintendent and staff of District Hospital, Senapati.
Dr M Sokhaa, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Senapati stated that it is fortunate for people of the district to have such services at their doorstep.
Addressing the event, Dr Johnny Varay, District Nodal Officer, PMNDP, Senapati stated that Senapati is the third district to have such facilities.
People of the area have been facing lots of problems travelling to Imphal for treatment.
Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, CMO/Director, District Health Society, Senapati congratulated Dr Johnny and his team .
He stated that such dialysis on chronic patients could prolong the life of a person by undergoing 4-5 times a month.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ng Benjamin Tao, lauded the Medical Department for their sacrifices for the welfare of the patients.
Addressing the media, Dr Johnny Varay, District Nodal Officer, PMNDP, Senapati stated that haemo-dialysis machines imported from Germany would act as artificial kidneys for those who are suffering from chronic kidney disease.
Dialysis keeps one's body in balance by removing waste, salt and extra water to prevent them from building up in the body, keeping a safe level of certain chemicals in the body such as potassium, sodium and bicarbonate and helping to control blood pressure, he added.
The machine would reportedly perform dialysis for around 3-4 hours from a machine.
There are reportedly 3 machines at Senapati where 3 patients can be treated by a machine per day.
It is also reported that CMHT card holders will be treated free of cost whereas non card holders would be charged Rs 1,200/- per dialysis.
