In one of the most spectacular display of harmony and camaraderie between Assam Rifles and civil population, 44 Assam Rifles has reopened the old PWD road connecting Kamjong and Chassad under Ukhrul district.
The old PWD road which bypassed a massive landslide has been made operational and inaugurated through a grand ceremony by Col BN Nayak, SM, Commandant 44 Assam Rifles on Thursday.

In a press statement, PRO HQ IGAR (S) said due to incessant rainfall in the first week of July, a portion of the hill joining Kamjong sub division with the rest of State was washed away which resulted in complete disappearance of over 500 meters of the main road and completely cutting of the subdivision and disrupting all essential services.
The 44 Assam Rifles along with the locals of Kamjong sub division spearheaded a project of restoration of a 7 Km-long stretch of the old PWD road which remained disused since the 1980s. Many prominent personalities, community leaders and people of Kamjong sub division, who extended a helping hand to the project, were attended in the opening ceremony.
