Conclave opposes Citizenship Bill

Imphal, July 15 2018:
A conclave of human rights and civil society organisations of North East India against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, was held at Saramati hotel, Dimapur yesterday.
After critically deliberating the contents and intent of the proposed Bill and understanding the threats posed by the said Bill to the very existence of the indigenous people, their land and their future, the participants resolved that such communal, anti-constitutional and anti-indigenous people Bill must not be allowed to be imposed in the North East against the will of the people.
The meeting resolved to stand united against any actions which threaten the people, their land and their future.
It also resolved to submit a memorandum to the President of the country and to the Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee regarding the Bill, to organise a sustained movement and hold simultaneous demonstrations in all the North East State capitals to prevent the Bill from being enacted in Parliament and to jointly organise demonstrations at Delhi.
It was also resolved to form a North East Coordination Committee against the Bill.
Anup Chetia and Lachit Bordoloi of Assam, Patal Kanya Jamatia and Nandalal Jamatia of Tripura, Tage Lapung and Tadar Tarish of Arunachal Pradesh, Longjam Ratankumar and Bishanjit Loitongbam of Manipur and Neingulo Krome and N Venuh of Nagaland, were elected to coordinate on all resolutions adopted during the meeting.
