Imphal, July 15 2018:
Pointing out that the State is currently experiencing many burning and sensitive issues including Indo-Myanmar border pillar controversy, Manipur University impasse, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and ILPS Bill etc, the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) has demanded the State Government to give convincing reasons to the public for convening the Manipur Legislative Assembly session only for two days.
The MPYCC announced that it will hold a bike rally on July 17 on the theme "Save India, save Manipur" to protest the incumbent Government's alleged misdeeds and failure to deal with the prevailing issues, including Indo-Myanmar border pillar controversy, Manipur University impasse, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, ILP issue, alleged CDA scandal etc.
Addressing a press meet held today at Congress Bhawan at BT Road, MPYCC president Amir Hussain informed that Indian Youth Congress president Keshav Chand Yadav will also participate in the bike rally slated for July 17 .
He said that the rally is against the misdeeds and failure of the BJP-led Central and State Governments to handle many critical issues which include alleged giving away of Manipur's territory at Indo-Myanmar border, unresolved MU impasse, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, ILPS issue and the alleged forged CDA case.
He decried that the Central and State Governments keep on claiming that there is no encroachment into the territory of Manipur and that the Border Pillar number 81 remains untouched by Myanmar despite the disclosure of Tengnoupal DC N Tombikanta that the BP No 81 was erected by encroaching several Kilometres within the territory of Kwatha Khunou apart from many CSOs, political parties and villagers of Kwatha Khunou claiming the same thing.
Claiming that the Congress party has been taking a pivotal role in protecting the territorial integrity of the State, Amir further asserted that the political party, its wings and volunteers/workers are always ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of protecting the State.
MPYCC general secretary (organization) Badrur Rahman pointed out that career of thousands of students of Manipur University and many colleges affiliated to it have been jeopardised due to the protracted impasse.
He continued that the students, faculties and staff of the university have been demanding healthy academic atmosphere, free from political influence and they have been carrying out democratic forms of agitation for nearly two months.
Instead of resolving the issue at the earliest, the State Government and the Centre are concentrating their efforts on inducting their men in all the key posts of all departments.
However, MPYCC and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) will never remain silent, he said and added that they would launch a series of agitation to save Manipur University and other educational institutes affiliated to it.
MPYCC vice president Ng Deelipkumar also criticized the NDA Government for coercively trying to introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the name of religion.
He then accused the Government of trying to make the North East States a dumping zone for illegal immigrants by allowing the illegal immigrants from the neighbouring countries to settle in the region in the name of certain religious faiths and added that it is also against the essence of democracy and secularism.
The State Government is also endorsing the Bill even though majority of the people including intellectuals and experts have expressed serious concern that the Bill will pose serious threats to the Manipuri society.
It (the Government) is also reluctant to introduce the ILP Bill in the State.
All these show that the Government is not people-centric, but only interested in securing their posts through publicity stunts, he lambasted.
Alleging that the Government is embroiled in myriad misdeeds and scandals which include forged CDAs, Deelipkumar further accused the Government of trying to conceal their misdeeds and scandals by recommending only two days for the upcoming monsoon session of the State Assembly.
