Imphal, July 15 2018:
The location of Joupi Batallion of HQ 28 Sector Assam Rifles in Chandelier district is one of the most underdeveloped areas in Manipur owing to its remoteness, treacherous terrain and inclement weather.
Over the years, the local populace has always predominantly depended on the cultivation of the Poppy plant for survival.
With perseverance and dogged determination, Joupi Batallion of Assam Rifles has motivated the populace to forsake poppy cultivation and embrace Lemon Grass cultivation in lieu.
|
Over the last three months unit has distributed lemon grass saplings to 13 villages in the area of responsibility.
Recently,T the unit's Commandant, Col Sachin Jain, SM, has participated in distribution of saplings to four villages of Molanghat, Aibol Joupi, Hollengjang and Mombi in the area.
In all a total of approximately 1 Lakh saplings of Lemon grass were distributed to the villagers till now whose transportation was also provided by the unit.
The involvement and dedication of the Assam Rifles towards the initiative taken shall go a long way in creating a positive change in the mindset of the locals and bringing a new dawn in their lives.
