Cancer awareness talk at GP Women's College

As a part of the National Cancer Prevention month observance a cancer prevention awareness programme organised by Guwahati-based Sahyog, an organisation working to create awareness about Torrent Oncology, was held today at GP Women's College.
Elaborating on the programme theme, Dr Th Tomcha Singh of Regional Cancer Centre, RIMS said cancer diseases can be averted if one avoids consumption, smoking or chewing of tobacco items.
Reminding that a number of toxic chemicals are used in the manufacture of tobacco items such a pan, khaini, cigarette and other non-smoking tobacco products, he reiterated that the best means to remain cancer free is to avoid these products.
While cancer of the lung is caused due to prolonged exposure to polluted air various factors also cause womb and breasts cancers, highlighted Dr Tomcha who strongly suggested that regular health check-up is another means for combating cancer as early detection and necessary treatment/medication can cure many cancer diseases.
