Imphal, January 23, 2012:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has categorically stated that it has nothing to do with elections held in India or Manipur.
In a statement, the outfit's general secretary A Ramroy, quoting a news item published on January 22 issue, stated that the ZUF was set up to protect Zeliangrong land, resources and protect the subjugated section.
ZUF would never indulge itself in any election, he said.
The DGP's letter to the GOC 57 Mountain Division about possible subversive activities like abduction, intimidation, extortion etc from the side of ZUF has projected the outfit in wrong light, Ramroy decried.
ZUF was not raised either against India nor Manipur nor it would oppose any community.
With regard to the Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, the ZUF does not support any political party or candidate nor does it oppose anybody.
"Our basic goal is to bring peace in the region", Ramroy asserted.
