Thoubal, October 17 2014 :
Refuting the news item published in local dailies which allegedly reported Thoubal district hospital of taking extra charge for child delivery, Medical Superintendent of Thoubal district hospital, Dr Md Salamut Ullah expressed strong dissatisfaction over the reported news and said the allegation was nothing but to tarnish the image of the district hospital.
Speaking to media persons at his office, Dr Md Salamut Ullah said, "The father of the child, Puyam Kishorkumar, said that he received a phone call and was called out.
Upon meeting, the individuals enquired about the doctor in-charge of the child delivery case.
"It can be recalled, Kishorkumar's wife gave birth to a premature baby on October 16.The family members then offered rupees five hundred to the doctor and rupees two hundred to the nurse as gratitude for the hard work," he added.
Dr Usham Syamkeshor, who assisted during the child delivery, said, "I am shocked and disappointed that such baseless and concocted news was published.
The mother was admitted at the hospital while I was on duty.
I had suggested the family members to admit her in Imphal.
However, due to the time constraints, the family members requested to assist.
After the delivery, the family members came and gave rupees five hundred for tea and snacks" .
Speaking further, Dr Md Salamut Ullah asserted that the district hospital assists 80 to 100 child deliveries per month and all the required facilities have been provided by the State Government.
There has been no incident till date where the doctors or nurses have demanded any money from the patients or the patients' family members.
