Children's day widely celebrated

Celebrated widely across India, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the on November 14, which has come to be known as Children's Day was celebrated with grandeur here in the State today.
Various schools and institutions of the State widely observed Children's Day today.
Sagolband Popular Upper Primary School, Sagolband Moirang Leirak inaugurated its children's day observation function today with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of late PM Jawaharlal Nehru and with the initiation of a two-day residential cultural exchange programme for standard III to VI students.
Speaking at the occasion, Headmistress A Keilyani said the late PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's love for children is the reason why November 14, his birth anniversary, is celebrated as Children's Day.
The cultural exchange programme session, the headmistress added, is organised with an aim to provide a platform for its students to expose their talents.
Other programmes like yoga session, dance, music and poetry competition would also be held, she added.
On the other hand, Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School also celebrated Children's Day at its school premises today.
Headmistress of the school, National awardee Kh Sunita distributed meritorious awards to the students who topped the school's yearly examination.
The event also hosted a painting competition and cultural programme for students.
Similarly, Children's Observatory Home, Takyelpat, organised by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), celebrated Nehru's birth anniversary today.
The event was presided by two of the home's own children as chief guest and president respectively.
MASLSA executive chairman and High Court of Manipur Judge Justice N Kotiswar Singh and former Judge, Gauhati High Court and Director of Manipur Judicial Academy Justice Maibam Binoykumar Singh attended the function.
Several gift items were later distributed among children as part of the celebration.
The programme also hosted a cultural event for the residing children.
