CM inaugurates new school building

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today inaugurated the newly constructed school building of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphelpat.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, the Chief Minister said that the approach road of the school, which is currently in a pathetic condition, would be revamped before March next year.
O Ibobi said that he visited the school campus after some youths set the school building on fire on May 7 this year.
Saying that he was shocked on seeing the condition of the school building, Ibobi said that the State Government took a firm decision to reconstruct the school without awaiting the Centre's funds as a slight delay could ruin the academic career of the students.
Maintaining that Kendriya Vidyalaya schools are Central Government institutes, Ibobi said that all the necessary funds for teachers and staff's salary and infrastructure maintenance are borne by the Centre.
However, the State Government contributed the whole amount for the reconstruction of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lamphelpat for the sake of saving the academic career of the students, he added.
Contending that Kendriya Vidyalaya schools are premier educational institutes of the country, the Chief Minister asked the teachers of the school to put in efforts to produce students, who are talented enough to compete at the National and international levels.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who was the functional president, said that it was a good omen to inaugurate the school on Children's Day, the 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Saying that the day is significant for children, Gaikhangam said that taking up development works for children is tantamount to securing their future.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also expressed hope that the Education Department would celebrate the day at the State level from next year.
Education Minister M Okendro and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa also attended the function as guests of honour.
