125th Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru celebrated

Conceding that Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country was the architect of modern India and a man of vision; Chief Minister O Ibobi called upon the people to follow footsteps and dreams of the great leader to usher in an era of peace and development.
The Chief Minister was attending as the chief guest of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru organized by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today.
Ibobi asserted that Jawaharlal Nehru had played a key role in the freedom movement for gaining independence of the country from the British yoke, while acknowledging that the late leader was highly qualified who always worked tirelessly for betterment of the people.
Nehru cared for children and had taken up measures meant for betterment of children of the country.
The birth anniversary of the leader is also celebrated as Children Day across the Nation.
In recognition of his influential contributions towards the country, Jawaharlal Nehru is also referred to as the architect of modern India; the CM maintained.

Presiding over the function, Deputy CM Gaikhangam who is also the president of MPCC said that Pandit Nehru had always wanted to nurture children knowing that the fate of the country lies in the hands of children.
Pointing out that some political parties are indulging in cheap politics not thinking much for the society, the Dy CM said that people should be aware of such divisive policies and thwart their attempt to create havoc in the society.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing; Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam; Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa; Abdul Salam, Rajya Sabha MP; MLAs and members of MPCC were also present at the occasion.
Prior to the commencement of the function, CM Ibobi led in offering floral wreaths at the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru inside the complex of Congress Bhavan as a mark of tribute.
A rally on the theme 'Run for Future' was flagged off jointly by the CM and Dy CM from the Bhavan.
The rally participated by Ministers; MLAs and workers of MPCC ended at the same venue where a State level painting competition for children based on birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru was organized.
In Category A of the competition, L Rohit (Don Bosco School); Sahil Sahani (DAV Public School) and Christina Irungbam stood first, second and third position respectively while Telen Khaidem (DAV Public School); Lanchenba (Kindergarten Montessori School) and Jenita (Blooming School) fetched first, second and third position respectively in Category B .
First, second and third position of Category A were awarded cash prize of Rs 7000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 respectively while those of Category B were cash prize of Rs 10000, Rs 8000 and Rs 5000 respectively.
The cash rewards were handed over to the respective winners of the competition by CM and Dy CM.
