Imphal, September 08 2015 :
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) celebrated its 15th foundation day at Lamyanba Shanglen today.
Social activist RK Ranendrajit, AMKIL president Ph Sakhi, All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj secretary Th Ramani and All Manipur Tami Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup president S Momon graced the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
At the beginning of the function, the gathering observed a one-minute silence to pay homage to Sapam Robinhood, who was killed in police firing during a pro-ILPS agitation on July 8 .
RK Ranendrajit while speaking at the function said that womenfolk have been taking active roles in resolving different issues.
Regarding ILP movement, he said that the State Legislative Assembly had passed three different Bills to implement ILPS after a sustained mass movement of people including women and students.
However, some persons have been spreading wrong information regarding this people's movement to incite hatred among different communities.
As such, it is necessary to identify these individuals first to restore normalcy and harmony, he observed.
At this critical juncture, he said, people need to stay calm and united.
Speaking at the function as a special invitee, UCM president Elangbam Johnson said that people of the hills and valley must communicate among themselves on the present issue to clear different misunderstandings .
He observed that it is a misconception that people of valley areas are trying to grab all the benefits.
Saying that the three Bills recently passed by the State Assembly do not have any clause which goes against the interest of the people of hill areas, Johnson said that all these misunderstandings could be resolved on the table.
He said that the three Bills were passed to safeguard all the indigenous people of the State.
Saying that these Bills would enable the State natives to identify the outsiders in every part of the State, Johnson said that 35 per cent of the total population of Manipur are non-locals/outsiders.
