Folk music workshop ends

The valedictory function of workshop cum production of folk instrumental music was held today at Mahabali Kabui Community Hall, Imphal East amidst cultural fanfare.
The closing function of the workshop, organised by Lamhil Kuki Cultural Research Centre, Haokip Veng under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, was graced by Sh Vedeshowr Sharma, Secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi, National awardee Guru Rewben Mashangva, and W Mera Singh, Deputy Director, Art and Culture as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Sh Vedeshowr Sharma said it is encouraging to note that all the communities of the State took keen interest in preservation and promotion of folk music.
He expressed his desire that folk music and folk dance events be organised in each district in order to promote folk music.
Stating that folk music is a part of identity of a community, Vedeshwor also stressed on the need to preserve folk music in the changing world so that the art form is kept intact.
He urged the people to extend cooperation to individuals who took keen interest in the field of folk music.
Presentation of folk music and showcasing of cultural dance marked the valedictory function.
