As part of the measures being taken up to sanitise Loktak lake from being the hideouts of UGs, the State Government has decided to set up three new police stations in the surrounding villages of the lake.
According to an official source, the meeting of the State Cabinet held yesterday with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in the chair decided to set up the new proposed police stations at Keibul Lamjao, Phoubakchao (Ithai) and Arong-Nongmaikhong.
It has also been finalised that 58 personnel would be deployed in each of the police stations.
It may be noted here that the State Police Department has already invited a global tender in connection with purchasing three Hovercrafts to be used in the operation of flushing out UGs from the lake apart from taking up steps to raise a Loktak Lake Protection Force.
