Asserting that Md Mujibur Rahman, who was among the six persons killed in Awang Khunou alleged shout out on September 8 night, was an innocent driver of a Tata Sumo plying between Imphal-Moreh and he was killed in a fake encounter, the JAC formed in protest against the killing has called 24-hour general strike with effect from midnight of September 11. Announcing this during a press conference at the office of Pangal Students' Organisation at Hatta this evening, JAC convenor Haji Arafat said the body would not be claimed until justice is done.
He also warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations in this regard.
On the other hand, Al Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers Association and the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Md Tomba, who was another person slain in the same alleged shoot out at Awang Khunou, have jointly submitted a four-point memorandum to the Governor today.
Md Tomba was said to a rickshaw driver who originally hailed from Mayang Imphal Bengoon Konchak but staying at Hatta Golapati here.
Earlier during the day, atleast two protestors sustained injuries in the police action of firing tear gas canisters and rubber bullets to disperse a Wakat Meepham staged against killing at Mayang Imphal Konchak Keithel.
