Free detained students, demands CSC

Newly formed College Students Council (CSC) has warned the Government that intense modes of agitation would be launched if fellow students arrested by police in the course of the ongoing movement for enactment of ILPS or a similar mechanism are not released by 12 noon of June 1 .
Speaking to media persons at DM College today, CSC convenor Dhanachandra Khaidem said that CSC is a joint students' organisation of 10 colleges namely DM College of Arts, DM College of Commerce, DM College of Science, Maharaja Bodhchandra College, Naorem Birahari College, Liberal College, Oriental College, NG College, Standard College and Manipur College.
He also condemned in the strongest term the alleged excesses committed by police on agitating students at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai yesterday.
All the arrested students should be released by 12 noon of June 1.If the arrested students are not released by the given deadline, the ongoing semester exams of BA, BSc and BCom would be banned apart from sealing administrative blocks of all colleges.
CSC is also all prepared to tackle the brute force of the State police, he added.
Meanwhile, the GP Women's College Students' Union has pledged support to any course of agitation that may be launched by the CSC.
The union said that they would seal the college's administrative block if the arrested students are not released and the all party delegation does not go to Delhi to seek the President's assent to the three Bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last year.
On the other hand, students of CC Hr Sec School today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Imphal East DC to release the two students arrested by police.
The memorandum pointed out that Bruce Pebam and L Bidyaluxmi were among the group of students who were staging a protest demonstration in front of the office of BJP Manipur Pradesh on May 24 demanding implementation of the three Bills passed by the State Assembly on August 31 last year and protection of all indigenous people of Manipur.
Bruce Pebam and L Bidyaluxmi were arrested by police from the protest site on the same day.
The memorandum said that they would boycott classes if the two arrested students are not released at the earliest.
Before the students submitted the memorandum, they raised an uproar within the school campus but police kept the school's gate locked.
Nonetheless, a few students were allowed to venture out and submit the memorandum to the Imphal East DC.
Meanwhile a group of eight students tried to storm Imphal police station today but their attempt was foiled by police.
It is said that the eight students were amongst the group of students who were pulled up Keishampat Leimajam Leikai and released later.
On the other hand, all passenger auto-rickshaws were diverted away from Yaiskul and Sanjenthong by police as they feared that protesters would come in auto-rickshaws and target Government offices including the Chief Minister's official residence.
